A POLICE officer from the commercial vehicle unit attended three Thurrock locations on Friday, October 14, between 3-11pm, to assist licensing officers from the local council with an ongoing programme of taxi checks.
The taxi ranks at Grays station, Lakeside and Chafford station were visited. A total of 52 taxis were checked with 27 taxi by-law offences discovered. This resulted in some drivers immediately buying first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
Eight mechanical offences were noted with appropriate advice given and they were given seven days to rectify the faults.
In addition police also made a seizure of a van at Lakeside as the driver had allowed his insurance to expire. He was also issued with a £200 fixed penalty notice.
Pc Al Cuthbertson said: “The reason we do these checks is to ensure that people are aware of the standards and they are complying with them.”
