A BUSY weekend lies ahead for the Harriers. On Saturday they tackle the third round of the Essex Cross Country League.
One of the leading contenders is Gemma Holloway, who will be continuing her campaign to take the under 15 girls title. Among the veterans Eamonn Shelley and Jon Metcalf will strive to defend their 1 and 2 positions in the 50+ age group.
Mick Bumstead, who missed the first race but won the second in the 60+ age group, will hope to continue his campaign to take the title in his category. Tom Richardson, in the under 17s group, is still in with a chance of a podium position at the end of the season.
The considerable numbers in the senior mens section are dividing their loyalties between the cross country league and the Chelmsford 10K on Sunday. Alex and Nick Houghton are back in action in the cross country race and lead a strong team, despite the absence of some runners resting for the following days road race. The Chelmsford 10K is probably one of the fastest courses in the Essex road race calendar. Among the Thurrock starters will be Adam Dowman in his first race for many weeks because of a nagging hamstring injury. The road running experts will be striving to add to their success in last weekends Billericay 10K where they won the team race.
