First year as a councillor: Cllr Victoria Holloway

EVER year, YT likes to drop in on the new tranche of councillors to see how they have been getting on.

Victoria Holloway was elected in May for the ward of West Thurrock and South Stifford.

Ms Holloway won’t appreciate the moniker of “rising star” as it is clear from this interview that she just wants to settle in and spend these early years, representing the people of her ward.

YT interviewed Victoria just after the surgery had finished in West Thurrock.

  1. Q: What did Victoria Holloway do on her Saturday morning?
A: Attend a surgery to meet and listen to her residents and aim to assist with their issues.

Q: What did rocket1 do on his Saturday morning?
A: Insult a young person working hard for one of our poorer communities, probably with the luxury of not having to leave the house to do so.

Just about sums it up really. The young lady comes across well and was a pleasure to listen to.

  2. it does not inspire much confidence when a year after her election she still does not know the name of her ward.

  3. I’m sure it’s purely a slip of the tongue (North/South) as opposed to signifying anything greater. What does inspire confidence however is that a young person has got up and done something positive, to positively contribute to her Borough. There will always be a time and a place to criticise politicians, lord knows, but I fail to see the point in highlighting such a small error. If that’s what you choose to focus on so be it, but it suprises me when there is so much to be positive about in Cllr Holloway’s interview.

  4. I don’t think Cllr Holloway made an error. Although officially her ward is named West Thurrock and South Stifford she also represents Purfleet and as a resident in Purfleet I’m glad she didn’t forget to mention us. Definitely not a mistake in my mind.
