28 swimmers from Thurrock Swimming Club took the short journey ‘across the water’ to take part in a training weekend at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in South East London.
Swimmers from the National Age Group and National Youth Squads aged from 10 to 18 years old spent the weekend, including an overnight stay in the Crystal Palace Lodge, and embarked on 4 two hour 50m pool sessions, coupled with two core stability land training sessions.
Some of the younger swimmers, away from home for the first time, coped admirably with the full on training weekend supported by some of the senior swimmers who have taken part in training camps like this before.
The swimmers were coached during the weekend by Thurrock’s Head Coach Alan Mitchell supported by Assistant Coaches Paul Hayes and Marc Butcher.
All three were assisted by ASA qualified Team Manager Hazel Day.
Head Coach, Alan Mitchell, summed up the weekend, “camps like this give our swimmers an ideal opportunity to train together as a team, outside of their home training pool, and thereby cementing the unity of our club”.”
