Hockey: Mid-season break does first no favours

Saffron Walden 1s 4 v 0 Thurrock 1s

After a mid-season break due to weather conditions, Thurrock returned to action against league leaders Saffron Walden. Both sides started cautiously with some slick passing but very few attempts on goal. Walden were looking to spread the play but Tees were more than a match defensively.

It eventually took a well worked short corner by Walden to break the deadlock and immediately Thurrock were very close to responding.

On a different day, Tees could have had 2 or 3 goals in the 1st half through good work up front by Steve Abbott and Liam Birch.

Both Kyle Taylor and Man of the Match Dan O’Shaughnessy were causing problems for Walden on the wings but a lack of finishing prowers left Thurrock scoreless going into the break. The instructions from coach and captain was to weather the storm and break on the counter which Tees were more than capable of doing but once again due to a lack of finishing, accompanied with some defensive mistakes, left the final scoreline 4-0.

A disappointing result when Thurrock should really have achieved better but they now have to put this behind them and look forward to next weeks game against Bishops Stortford at Palmers at 2pm.
