DETECTIVES are hoping that someone can help identify a “less than fashion-conscious” man who was involved in an attempted street robbery in Grays.

The attack happened shortly before 4pm on Monday, April 23 when a man was walking along Clarence Road. He was approached by two men who nudged into him, forcing him to drop his mobile telephone. As he went to pick it up, one of the two men stamped on his wrist and the telephone. They walked off while verbally threatening him.

Investigating Officer, Dc Tanya Bailey, said: “We’re not sure if this was an opportunistic, random attack or whether this man was targeted for a few minutes before his came into contact with these two men. Although there were two of them, we’re especially keen to identify the man who caused his wrist injury and judging from his attire and distinctive nose, he should be easily identifiable.”

The assailants are described as white and in their early 20s. One man was further described as approximately 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build, has short dark hair and was wearing a black jacket, dark-blue jeans, white trainers and a black baseball cap at the time while his accomplice is approximately 5ft 2in tall, of skinny build and was wearing all white – tracksuit, trainers and baseball cap. He has light, short hair and a distinctive pointy nose.

The 37-year-old victim from the Tilbury area was taken to Basildon University Hospital by his partner on Monday evening where he was treated for a shattered wrist.

Anyone with information in connection with this assault is urged to contact detectives at Grays police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

  1. Its no wonder people feel unsafe and intimidated in Grays Town.
It even happens in broad daylight now.
It either needs more CCTV or Police, unfortunately it will never happen.
