A MAN who was wanted in connection with a shooting in South Ockendon has been identified by police and arrested.
The shooting took place shortly after four men had entered The Archer Public House on Garron Lane in South Ockendon at 10:20pm on Monday, May 14, searching for a local man. A firearm was discharged by one of the men in the car park as the intended victim fled the scene.
Detectives were keen to identify a man and a Ford Connect van captured on CCTV. They have yet to identify the owner of the van, but on Thursday, July 19 a 27-year-old man from Grays was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and subsequently released on police bail until Tuesday, August 21 pending further enquiries. An 18-year-old man, also from Grays, and a 20-year-old woman from South Ockendon are also on police bail until this date in August after also having been arrested in connection with this investigation.
A 43-year-old former security employee is currently on court bail after having been arrested and charged with attempting to cause Grievous Bodily Harm with intent and possession of a firearm in connection with this incident. David Knight, from Crammavil Street in Grays, is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Friday, August 3.
