Charity fund raiser in Stanford is a great success

STANFORD Rugby Club and Laing O’Rourkes came together at the weekend to raise money for Paediatric & Adolescent Oncology Research Fund, after Stanford Club member Luke Dawson was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

No young person should have to go through the trauma of cancer, so a plan was hatched to raise money to support research and hopefully help stop this terrible illness.

Money was raised through various activities; a rugby game in the baking heat, auction and raffle, waxing, have a go at pole dancing, hog roast and BBQ, Karaoke, and many other silly ideas that raised a few quid to the cause. The original target of £1,000 was set when the idea was purely a game of rugby but it just goes to show the generosity and club spirit as the event took off into a major fund raiser.

The money is still coming but at present the total stands at just over £4,000 which is truly amazing.

Luke’s family tried to sum up their feelings towards everyone who helped and attended. They wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone and found the whole event very humbling, that so many people supported the cause so close to them and dug so deep to raise such a fantastic amount.

Stanford RFC pride themselves on their community spirit so if you want to get involved and be a part of such a great club then please come along to Grove Road where the club house is situated. Wednesday 29th to 31st August sees the club open its doors for its annual rugby school which is for new and existing players.

Three days of fun, where boys and girls can learn new skills in a safe environment at only £30.

If you wish to donate to the charity, book a place for your child (age 6 upwards) or want to know more about the club please contact Graham on either 07970 734379 or graham.loughran@stanfordrugby.co.uk.
