BIG Local, a £200m investment, was launched by the Big Lottery Fund in July 2010 to support 150 small urban and rural communities to come together to make their areas even better places to live.
It was announced today by the Big Lottery Fund that Grays Riverside is one of the areas, to benefit from at least £1m to spend over the next 10 years and make a massive and lasting positive difference to their communities.
It’s all about bringing together the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.
Big Local is run by Local Trust, which is working with the Big Lottery Fund and a range of partners providing expert advice and support for residents.
Big Local is not about the government or a national organisation telling residents what to do. It’s not about individual groups fixing their favourite problem without talking to wide range of different people who live and work in the community. It’s not about short term thinking – there are 10 years to plan and deliver the best options for the area.
Kristina Jackson Chief Executive Officer from Thurrock CVS says she is delighted that Grays Riverside has been selected as one of the areas to receive the award.
There is already a strong sense of community in the area with many individuals and community groups already striving to make a difference.
This funding will make all the difference as residents will receive training and support to help them identify priorities and develop a plan for the Grays Riverside Area over the next 10 years.
