St Luke’s appeal…they still need your help

BETWEEN Christmas and New Year St Luke’s Hospice staff and volunteers have been pounding the streets of Thurrock to distribute the last of 140,000 Christmas Appeal envelopes.

Total raised to date stands at £12,936, around half of what has been targeted for budget requirements. Currently the Hospice has in the region of a £63K deficit against their projected 2012/13 budget. Analysing the budget further it is evident that whilst the Hospice, across all departments, is maintaining or working below expected expenditure, direct public donations have dropped to below 2011 levels which is causing concern. The Hospice’s previous Christmas Appeals – reveal a steady decline from £26,000 in 2008 to just under £20,000 in 2011.

Head of Revenue Development,Marilyn DeBattista said: “We are delighted and grateful for the response so far but it’s still too early to anticipate if we will reach our target – in past years it has taken until the end of January before the envelopes stop arriving.

If everybody receiving one of our Appeal Envelopes could find a way to support us, even with a small amount of money later in the year, collectively it will make a big difference to the many people the Hospice help and supports’

’We are also grateful to the many volunteers who have braved cold wet weather to ensure our envelopes are delivered’’.

Donations to the Hospice’s Christmas Appeal can also be made direct to the Hospice by debit/credit card on 01268 524973 or by Texting STLK10 with the amount you want to donate to 70070

How your donation could help:-

£10.66 could pay for a patient’s essential clinical supplies for a day
£48.00 provides counselling for one child
£84.45 could help a patient access Hospice care in their home by covering
costs for a visit from our Hospice at Home team.

St Luke’s provides care and support free at the point of delivery 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the Hospice in Basildon and in people’s own homes throughout Thurrock, Basildon, Billericay and Wickford, as well as at their satellite centres in Corringham and Billericay.
