Hockey: Thirds get new year wake up call!

AFTER a four week break, Thurrock played a friendly against their local rivals in preparation for the restart of the East League next week.

The game flowed from end to end with both teams having chances but neither being able to convert. After thirty minutes, Brentwood were awarded a series of short corners which keeper Danny Hick dealt with well until a shot was deflected into the net from close range to give the home team the lead.

In the second half it was Thurrock who had the majority of possession with Jo Harvey and Aaron Saunders providing width to the attack whilst Ethan Pinion worked tirelessly in defence to cut out any threats from the opposition.

When Alex Thompson intercepted a pass in the middle of the field, he quickly moved the ball on for Michael Fleming to drive into the Brentwood D and hammer a shot which looked to be a certain equaliser; however the keeper just managed to deflect the ball onto the post and rebound to safety.

Next week Thurrock travel to Rochford to resume their league program
