THURROCK residents awoke to the first snows of year and zero temperatures.
The snow heralded what is expected to be a very cold week with bands of snow, sleet and rain hitting the area.
Traffic was effected.

Slow traffic on A13 westbound in Purfleet near Wennington Interchange, because of an accident involving two vehicles.
Traffic was already slow travelling west on the A13 from the Orsett Cock as well as approaching the Dartford crossing.
There are no reports of any school closures.
Essex Police have issued an appeal for drivers to make all the necessary arrangements in this weather.
