Diversity champions raise funds for pebbles

THE Mayor was pleased to accept a cheque for £664 from the 2012 Diversity Champions at Full Council (Wed 23 Jan) who spent most of the year fundraising and attending community events promoting diversity & equality.

After seeing people remove the pebbles at last years memorial service in Grays Memorial Park the young people were shocked and said it was like watching flowers being taken from a grave.

They decided to try fundraising by arranging quiz nights and a sponsored walk from Tower Bridge to Westminster and back, crossing every bridge on their path.

The Mayor informed Members at Full Council as he received the cheque that the funds raised will be put towards the cost of a permanent and growing memorial stone in the park, where visitors can lay smaller pebbles in soft cement every year.
