A DISABLED Thurrock resident slammed the performance of Thurrock’s housing repairs company, Mears.

Corringham resident and journalist, Paul Petersen, suffers from Muscular Dystrophy and posed the question to the leader of Thurrock Council, cllr John Kent at full council.

Mr Petersen informed the council that Mears have failed to turn up on four occasions to his home.

He said: “With Mears failing to turn up on four occasions, it would seem that we have a change of name from Morrison to Mears but no change in performance. Could you tell me what the attendance rate is like in the rest of the borough?”

Cllr Kent informed Mr Petersen that the attendance rate is close to 90% but admitted that still meant they were missing 10 jobs for every 100 dispatched to.

  1. Same telephone numbers, same people, same service just a different day.
Cllr Kent must dizzy he is spinning so much recently!

  2. I agree Blackshots. Nothing has changed. It is what happens when you give these contracts to multi national companies with only one thing on there mind. Profit.. They don’t give a toss about us residents its all about the bottom line.
They cream off the profit and pay there workforce peanuts. As they say “Pay peanut and you get Monkeys” People i know who have had work carried out told me the men attending didn’t speak English and hadn’t the proper tools.
Mr Kent and his band of merry men and women cant see the wood from the trees. The have now ditched local caring contractors to us the big boys for the decent home as well. The also don’t give a toss for us locals and profit comes before anything. Will they never learn or listen to the people who really matter.
Lets all wait for the big crash as surely it wont be long.

  3. Recent walk around Darwin Road resulted in residents reporting waiting times of 10 months for basic repairs. Closure of Mower / clipper hire facilities has left area looking ragged. Hobart / Adelaide next. Please report all problems to local Councillors they are awaiting your calls / emails. Burnt out paddock needs clearing. Roads need re surfacing,

  4. I am amazed that Val Morris-cook still insists things are much better. When will this council realise that these big companies cannot provide the service the tenants deserve.
    Pay peanuts and get monkeys!
