Green Flags for two of Thurrock’s parks

TWO of Thurrock’s favourite parks have secured prestigious Green Flags, proving they are among the best in the nation.

For the three previous years, three Thurrock parks won the accolade, but work to re-establish Grays Beach Riverside Park following last year’s blaze was still going on when the judges visited the borough and the park was not entered for the competition by the council.

This year’s winners were Langdon Hills Country Park and Coalhouse Fort Park. Both were visited and congratulated by environment portfolio holder Cllr Victoria Holloway when the news became public on Monday (29 July) morning.

Cllr Holloway said: “My grateful thanks go out to everyone who works on keeping these parks up to this superb standard. The thousands of people who visit these wonderful green spaces are testament to the hard work that is put in behind the scenes.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to those thousands of visitors too, as it is their custom and their undoubted enjoyment of our facilities that makes the work worthwhile.

“Thurrock Council looks after hundreds of green spaces around the borough, but unfortunately they can’t all have Green Flags.

“However I am confident that we’ll have at least three Green Flags flying over our parks next year.”

Green Flag awards recognise well-managed, high-quality green spaces and the scheme, which started in 1996, is managed by a consortium including Keep Britain Tidy, The Conservation Volunteers and GreenSpace on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

  1. Is no one bothered that Labour controlled Thurrock Council plan to sell off a chunk of Grays Beach Park?

Remember the fuss from Labour when they thought the Conservatives were going to do this? They claimed the Mardyke Veolia Trust would demand all their cash back.

Interesting that the Mardyke Veolia Trust closed down in April and the fist thing Labour do is flog of a chunk of the park when the threat of the Charity demanding its cash back no longer exists.

    Labour hypocrites.
