IN MARCH, Sainsbury’s launched our hunt for our Charity Of The Year 2013/14. They were in-undated with votes from a wide range of charities and community groups across the borough.
Their Colleague Council then had the difficult decision of who we would support.
After much deliberation we knew that Thurrock Foodbank were the right fit for us, and could benefit most from our support.
On hearing the news Thurrock Foodbank Representative Victoria Windus said:
“Thurrock foodbank is thrilled to have been selected as the local Charity of the Year for the Sainsbury’s Chafford Hundred store. They have already been very supportive in hosting foodbank collections for us and helping with the printing costs of our fundraising recipe book, which has just been launched.
“We are very much looking forward to partnering with the store over the next twelve months and are excited about the impact that this partnership will have on our operation. Our focus for fundraising at the moment is for a van (unless we can get one donated!) or for someone to work for us part-time to expand the work of the foodbank in the borough.
“Other opportunities that we will be working on with Sainsbury’s in the year ahead are for more food collections and getting their store colleagues involved with volunteering – for example, at our warehouse and distribution centres.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help raise the profile of Thurrock foodbank and to work together to help those close to home who are in crisis and need”
