Tory leader questions Kent’s attendance record

THE THURROCK Tories have questioned the attendance record of the leader of Thurrock Council, cllr John Kent at the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) meetings.

Leader of the Conservatives Cllr Phil Anderson said “I am pleased to hear Cllr Kent is committed to a strong voice for Thurrock at the LEP, which is important to promote economic growth and public investment in Thurrock. However, he rarely attends the meetings, preferring instead to send a deputy.

“This just isn’t good enough, other council leaders attend far more regularly and if Thurrock is to retain a seat at the top table Cllr Kent needs to show how seriously he takes the LEP by actually turning up.”

A check of the attendance record shows that:

Transport Board Meetings in 2013
Cllr Kent was absent in January 2013, March 2013, and May 2013, with Cllr Andy Smith attending as a substitute. Cllr Kent attended in June 2013 only.

Full Board Meetings
Cllr Kent was absent in December 2012 and March 2013, with Cllr Andy Smith attending as a substitute.
