Hockey: Thurrock Firsts turn on the style against Witham

Thurrock 4 – Witham 2

WITH the first game of the season not going so well the Tee’s changed up their tactics and decided that attack was the best form of defence.

However it was Witham that drew first blood with a very dubious goal which the attacker played in with his foot. Worst was to come after another decision left the Tee’s shell shocked and 2-0 down in just 15 mins of the first half.

This spurred the team into action and showed brilliant defiance against a well drilled side, the rest of the half was spent in the midfield until Michael Fleming’s hard work paid off allowing the home team to win a Penalty Corner. Up stepped Man of the Match Tommy Ing to coolly smash home Thurrock’s first goal of the game. This put Thurrock on the front foot and the Away side looked happy to hear the half time whistle.

With some well chosen words of wisdom from new coach Paul Dover the Tee’s went out ready for their first win of the season. Sensing a shift in the game the away side allowed the Tee’s to attack and absorb the pressure, however the Tee’s broke the back line and won another Penalty Corner which again was dispatched by Tommy Ing sending the keeper the wrong way. Only 4 minutes later the same man stepped up and made his first hat-trick complete.

The away side switched it up a gear and sent attack after attack into the Tee’s half with chances coming from at least 10 Penalty corners which where either run down or saved by the defence. Then a breakaway from the Tee’s front men ended up in the back of the net by veteran forward Christian Jenkins.

The final whistle came soon after with great relief to both sides after a great game of hockey
