Council u-turn on Mandela Book of Condolence

IT may have been a long walk to freedom but we hope it is now a short walk to the Civic Offices as Thurrock Council has changed its mind and will be opening a book of condolence in respect of Nelson Mandela.

YT reported yesterday that the council did not plan to open a book unlike dozens of councils across Britain including Barking and Dagenham.

But we understand, South Chafford councillor, Tunde Ojetola intervened and using his diplomatic skills, has persuaded the council to change its mind.

Full details and arrangements for the book will be announced shortly.
