THURROCK COUNCIL has pledged to continue to work with developers to encourage development across the borough.
Portfolio holder, cllr Andy Smith reported to the cabinet that he was trying to quosh rumours among the business community that there were problems with Thurrock Council’s “Core Strategy”, the overarching plan to develop land and business across the borough.
Cllr Smith said: “It is true that we have not built enough houses, then again, no other borough has.
“We have over 9,000 consents but it is hardly our problem that people are not building as the market is not right.
But we will look at this problem.
“I am pleased that 96% of our planning consents are on previously developed land.”
