Rugby: Russell hangs up his boots after 46 years

Russell Jackson hangs up his boots after 46 years of playing.

Stanford RFC hosted a retirement game for a true stalwart of rugby which was supported by over 50 players, from Stanford RFC, Thames RFC, Brentwood RFC and Old Brentwood RFC. An invitation to players who had graced the field with Russell over the years went out and the response was over-whelming.

The Lord High Sheriff Hanging Judge Jackson of Stanford Le Hope as he is known to his rugby touring team mates was guest of honour at an after game party where he was present with a signed playing shirt and a certificate to say he was now the official Lord Russell Jackson of Wordsley Manor.

A much loved, respected and dedicated rugby player Russell has always taken his rugby seriously and over the years has nurtured and tutored many a young player from youth to senior rugby, giving back as much as he has got from rugby. Russell will remain a prominent part of Stanford Rugby Club committee helping to steer the club onwards with his knowledge and his own personal russellstanstyle of leadership.

Any rugby tourists need not relax as the Hanging Judge will be presiding over court and metering out his own correctional punishments as befits the crimes.
