ON Sunday the Orsett 3 mile fun run took place attracting a disappointingly small field. The race is held round the lanes of the
village and is always enjoyed by the competitors.
This year it was won by 16 year old Gary Cahill with a time 17m25s.
This success for the Stanford le Hope schoolboy is well deserved and will spur him on to greater achievements throughout the summer.
Just 40 seconds behind him was Will Slaughter, aged 15, also a member of Brenda Stone’s training group. He was rewarded with a very good time of 18m05s.
In 3rd place was Orsett resident, Jon Metcalf, with a time of 18m26s.
Jon took the prize in the 45+ age category. Thurrock’s other competitor was Ian Scott with a time of 21m45s.
This weekend sees the Essex Schools Championships at Chelmsford where many of the Club’s athletes will be vying for medals.
