THURROCK health boss, cllr Barbara Rice has backed the smoking cessation campaign, Stoptober.

Cllr Rice signed the big red ball with the twitter hashtag, Stoptober.

Thurrock Council – which took responsibility for public health last year – will be playing an important local role in next month’s Stoptober campaign aimed at getting people to quit smoking.

Stoptober is a 28-day quit attempt to encourage the nation’s eight million smokers to take the first steps towards a smoke-free future.

If smokers can stop for 28 days they are five times more likely to stop for good.

Anybody who would like to stop smoking can pick up a Stoptober Preparation Pack with quitting tools and support information from reception in Thurrock Council’s New Road, Grays offices, or talk to a pharmacy or GP.
