Five and Heronians 267-5 50 overs
Belhus 270-4 46.4 overs
Belhus won their top of the table clash thanks to a magnificent display of batting by the Joyce brothers. Winning the toss in overcast conditions Danny Joyce had no hesitation in putting Fives in to bat. It soon became apparent that the wicket was a very good one. Having been asked if he was wearing “the right pair of glasses” Gary Edwards proved that he was batting throughout the 50 overs for an unbeaten 116. Ably supported by Gary Norris 58 Fives managed to get up to a total of 267-5 in their 50 overs.
268 to win is always a tough ask, but Danny and Joe Joyce set about their task in good speed. When Danny Joyce departed just short of what would have been a thoroughly deserved hundred on 98, the total was already above 200 and plenty of overs were left to collect the runs required. Five’s however intended to make things as difficult as possible and brought the field in for the new batsmen looking to suffocate the run rate. 3 quick wickets fell and the run rate had begun to creep up. Wayne Read came to the crease with more than 20 still required and was still in when Joe Joyce unbeaten on 143 hit the winning runs with 20 balls still remaining. A tough day for the bowlers on what proved to be an excellent wicket.
Belhus travel to local rivals Horndon this Saturday.
