Leicester Lions 39, Lakeside Hammers 51
A patched up Vortex Lakeside Hammers finally enjoyed a season’s first victory on the road this evening, with a comfortable win at Leicester Lions.
The Hammers were forced to call upon Hans Andersen, Max Fricke and Richard Hall to cover for injuries to Kim Nilsson, Mikkel Bech and Ashley Birks, whilst Chris Harris came in for skipper Andreas Jonsson who was competing in his national championships in Sweden (where he finished second).
After an initial drawn opening heat, the Hammers led for the remainder of the meeting, depriving the Lions of any heat advantages until the final nominated heat 15.
At reserve, Ellis and guest Richard Hall dominated their Lion counterparts with 7 (paid 8) and 7 (paid 9) respectively, with Ellis re-instated in heat 12 by the referee, following an initial exclusion for leaving the track after the first running of the race had been stopped with James Sarjeant excluded.
Harris chipped in with 9 points, and Andersen 7, whilst Hammers, Edward Kennett (5+2) and Richard Lawson (6+1) each took a heat win, but the star of the show for the Essex team was guest Max Fricke who delivered 10 paid 11, including three heat victories.
