THE Bulphan village Community Café has been open for a few weeks now & is going from strength to strength. Held every Friday between 2.30pm & 4.30pm in the village hall, what started with a handful of visitors now has a steady flow during the afternoon, from those wanting a piece of the lovely homemade cakes with a cup of tea or coffee & a chat, to mums, dads & children popping in between school pickups for crisps & juice.
There’s an array of board & card games, some bring their knitting, crochet & craft projects, help & advice with computers & phones together with lots of information on local issues, planning applications & services such as the bus & mobile library is available. The hall now has a free Wi-Fi connection.
They also collect donations for Thurrock Foodbank & have an Against breast Cancer Bra Bank. Both of these in conjunction with Bulphan Women’s Institute.
As the weather gets colder the menu has expanded to include toast & soon homemade soups. There are also gluten free items available.
Also coming soon will be the post office which will open on both Thursday & Friday afternoons. A book swap scheme which will start in the coming weeks is being organised.
A local resident commented that the café “is really bringing the community together” so it’s certainly starting to fulfil its aim. Please do pop along & give it a try.
