A FORMER Thurrock General Election candidate has avoided being extradited back to Kenya.
The judge declined to order the extradition of Daniel Munyambu to Nairobi to face fraud charges, citing Kenya’s poor remand conditions and sluggish justice system.
The decision made on Wednesday at the Westminster Magistrate’s Court means Daniel Munyambu will not be sent to Kenya to face charges of obtaining money by false pretence despite jumping bail and fleeing the country in 2012.
Judge Tan Ikram who heard the case ruled that Mr Munyambu’s rights will be violated if he was transferred to Kenya after being told of Nairobi’s horrid prison conditions and how cases drag on for years.
He was told of lack of private lavatories, poor ventilation, low natural light and fresh air, poor heating system, and other basic health requirements were lacking in prisons in Kenya.
