Motorsport: AmD Tuning go forclassic colours

AmDTuning.com will pay homage to one of motorsport’s most iconic colour schemes this season after revealing the livery it will use in the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Having fielded an Audi S3 during five events in 2015, the West Thurrock-based team will embark on its first full season with the car this year, with hopes high of building on the early promise shown by the front-wheel drive machine.

To celebrate a full time switch to the Audi after two seasons running a Ford Focus, the team will take inspiration from one of the German manufacturer’s most famous liveries after taking the wraps off its new colours on the opening day of the annual Autosport International Show at Birmingham’s NEC.

The revised look replaces the all-black livery seen on the S3 last year, and has been designed to include elements of the famous colours that appeared on the fearsome IMSA Audi 90 GTO of the late 1980s.

The dark red, black and silver stripes that featured on the IMSA car driven by Hans Joachim Stuck, will be incorporated in a vibrant colour scheme that also reflects AmDTuning.com’s traditional red and black.

The Audi will be on display on the Cobra Exhausts stand – stand 19120 – for the remainder of the Autosport International Show, which runs until Sunday.

“We’re pleased to take the covers off the new look Audi and think the end result will stand out on track during the season ahead,” team boss Shaun Hollamby said. “We were keen to go back to our traditional colours this year and we saw the ideal opportunity to incorporate elements of the IMSA Audi livery to celebrate our first full season with the S3.

“Audi has a huge amount of history and heritage in motorsport and whilst we are an independent team, we are proud to celebrate part of that heritage in the livery we have chosen. The famous Audi stripes go well with our own red and black, and also with the colours of Cobra Exhausts who we are delighted to have on board again this season.”

Talks with potential drivers for the season ahead are ongoing, with an announcement to be made in due course.
