ORSETT and Thurrock remain top of the 1st XI Division One table after a 22-run win at home against Hadleigh & Thundersley.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. The top seven batsmen all contributed with Daniel Laird top-scoring with 54 from 60 balls. There were also useful knocks from Lewis Lockyer (44), Will Gibbon (37) and an unbeaten 36 from Matt Hills as the leaders posted an excellent 247 from their 50 overs.

At 165-3, Hadleigh & Thundersley looked well set to chase down the total. But when Owen Lynch was dismissed for 72 by Paul Bennett to make the score 207-6, the momentum swung back to Orsett & Thurrock. The match was all over in the 49th over as Shahid Khan took the final wicket, his third of the innings. Paul Bennett also took three wickets as Orsett & Thurrock kept up their unbeaten start to the season.
