A MAN has admitted causing death by careless driving following a collision in Tilbury in August last year where an elderly man died.
Police were called to the Civic Square in the town shortly after 4.20pm on August 20, 2015. A pedestrian had been seriously injured after he had been struck by a double decker bus. Derek Coleman, 82, and from Tilbury, was taken to the Royal London Hospital but sadly died on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
Following an investigation by Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, the bus driver, Stephen Thompson, 49, of Hostier Close, Rochester, was charged with causing the death of Mr Coleman by careless driving. He was also charged with fraud by false representation between 2010 and 2015, relating to information he allegedly failed to disclose to his employer.
Thompson pleaded guilty to all of the offences today at Basildon Crown Court.
He will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, December 8.
