Football: Rocks pull off cup shock in seven goal thriller

FA Trophy 1st Round Replay

Aldershot Town 3 v 4 East Thurrock United

EAST Thurrock caused an FA Trophy upset as they beat Aldershot Town 4-3 after extra time at the Ebbs Stadium.

This was the classic ding-dong battle as East Thurrock went behind with a goal by Matt McLure on the half hour.

However, goals by Sam Higgins and Tom Wraight scored to put the team ahead at half time.

Aldershot also had a player sent off.

It only took five minutes of the second half for Aldershot to find an equaliser when Walker grabbed one from close range.

But defender Joe Ellul put the Rocks ahead again in the 74th minute.

Substitute Harry Honesty had a great chance to win it for East Thurrock but his strike went just wide of the post.

Sure enough, Shots’ striker Bernard Mensah equalised in injury time.

The first period of extra time saw no real chances but East Thurrock retook the lead minutes into the second period Kyle Ferdinand smashed into the bottom of corne.

And that was to be that as the National League South side secured passage to face Braintree in round two of the FA Trophy.
