Thurrock UKIP slam Tory Planning Chair over Gloriana press release

Gloriana Homes in Tilbury

THURROCK UKIP has reacted with anger at press release issued by the Tory chair of the Planning Committee.

A spokesperson said: “Thurrock Council sent out a press release from the Conservatives’ cllr Kelly praising the affordable housing that had been added to the Tilbury St Chads Gloriana development.

Cllr Kelly said: “This is a great result for residents thanks to the strong stance the Planning Committee took. The committee refused to accept the proposal in December for no affordable housing and after sending them away to think again, the developer came back to the committee with 20 per cent affordable housing and the full original financial contribution.”

However what Cllr Kelly fails to mention is that at the December meeting he and the Deputy Mayor voted for the removal of all affordable housing from the St Chads development. Cllr Kelly was also the only Councillor to vote against plans to bring the application back at a later date with more affordable housing.

UKIP Thurrock Housing Spokesman, Cllr Luke Spillman added “Cllr Kelly and the Conservative Deputy Mayor, Cllr Ojetola, were the only Councillors to vote in favour of removing all the affordable housing from Gloriana’s St Chads project.

“UKIP believes residents should be made aware of this.”
