Athletics: Young Harriers shine at Essex County Combined Events Championships

Essex County Combined Events Championships

THURROCK Harrier’s young athletes were well represented in the Essex County Combined Events Championship held on Bank Holiday Monday at their stadium. Achieving success on the podium athletes won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals against opposition from all over the county.

Gold medals were won by Theo Adesina in the U17M competition (with pbs in Javelin 31.15 and Discus 23.21) and Ruby Bridger in the U15G competition (with pbs in 75mH, 11.40s, a new club record, HJ 1.54m and Pent score 2945 again a new club record).

Charlie Splarn returning from injury took silver medal in the U20M competition (pbs in Javelin 30.94 and Discus 22.88), and the silver medal in the U17M competition went to Liam Chivers (pbs in LJ 5.08m, Discus 18.84m & 1500m in 5.15).

Bronze medals were won by Daniel Ogutuga (U15B) and Scarlett Carter (U13G) having gained pbs in LJ 3.25, 70mH 15.30 & Shot 5.49.

Many personal and seasonal bests were achieved including: Tilly Monk (U15G) pbs in 75mH, 15.30 Shot 6.57, HJ 1.39, LJ 4.00 & Pent 1916, Jamie Crane (U15B) pbs in 80mH 15.60, HJ 1.33, LJ, 4.43 Shot 7.51, 800m 2.33, Pent 1517 Tosin Olajide (U15B) pbs in Shot 6.59, 800m 3.00, Luke Holgate (U15B) pbs in 80mH 18.50, HJ 1.24, Shot 6.09, 800m 3.06.

The club is very proud of all it’s U13 athletes completing all 5 events, for many this was their first taste of a multi-event competition. Competing in Thurrock vests U13G were Rosie Ann Townley, Ema Aldea, Madeleine Booty,
Millie Tredgett, Ej-Precious Nwachukwu, Emily Butler, Francesca Ford, Hayleigh Ashworth, Toula Stavi. U13 boys were Corek Orhan, Jack Warrne, Maison Carpenter-Prout, and Morgan Saunders.
