CLLR Rob Gledhill, Leader of the Council, has sought to reassure residents following an incident in Aveley on Saturday 10 June which saw Essex Police close the Aveley By-Pass.
Cllr Gledhill said: “The reports on social media of this being terrorist-related were somewhat premature and inaccurate. The police responded swiftly and effectively to tackle this criminal incident.
“I want to thank Essex Police for their response and how they continue to keep the residents of Thurrock safe.
“The council has been in contact with the police and would re-assure residents there is no need for alarm.”
He added: “Residents may see an increased police presence in the area – this is normal as police conduct searches of the area as part of their enquiries.
“I would urge anyone who has information which could assist the police to call 101.”
