Athletics: Great medal haul for Thurrock Harriers

Eastern Counties AA Championship

THURROCK Harrier’s athletes competed in the Eastern Championship held in Cambridge on Saturday 24th June. Fantastic performances brought home 4 Gold, 8 Silver and 4 Bronze medals and a host of pbs.

Medallists were: Liam Chivers (U17M) came 2nd in Shot 8.80, 2nd in 400m 52.08, also throwing 21.65 in Discus. Sarab Dhillon (U17M) came 2nd in 1500m with a pb of 4:22.04.

Demi Eves (U15G) came 2nd in 800m 2:21.04. Hayley Instance (U17G) came 2nd in 800m 2:19.46. Kayode Odumosu (U17M) came 1st in HJ with 1.65 (sb) and 3rd in 100mH 15.56.

Daniel Soyebo (U17M) came 2nd in Triple Jump 11.81 and ran a pb in 100m with 11.65, ,
Harry Parker (U15M) came 1st in 800m with a time of 2:12.84, Michael Shorthall (SM) 2nd in 400mH 60.14. Samuel Smith (U20) came 3rd in 800m 2:13.08. Charlie Splarn (U20M) came 3rd in 100m with 11.53 (sb) and 1st in Shot with a pb of 10.38. Rhea Stravi (U17G) came 3rd in shot 8.34, and also thew a pb in Javelin 24.65. Jessica Whitbread (U17W) 1st in Long Jump 5.54 (pb) and 3rd in Triple Jump 10.02.

Other results included: Evie Croom ( U17W) 100m 12.96 (pb), Long Jump 4.56 (pb), Javelin 21.83. Taylor Newell (U17M) 800m 2:06.5. Kennedy Beardwell (U15G) 800m 2:44.22. Hannah Peacock (U15G) 800m 2:46.19. Thomas Peacock (U13M) 2:30.25 (pb). Rosie Townley (U13G) 800m 2:57.66, 70mH 15.10 (pb), Long Jump 3.39. Jack Exley (U17M) 1500m 4:26.78. Sarah Blockley (U17W) 5:12.20. Seniz Jessener (U20W) Shot 7.56 (pb)

English School Combined Events Championships

East Anglian Regional Round

Thurrock Harrier’s athletes competed as members of the Essex teams at the East Anglian regional round of the Schools Combined Events Championship which was held in Bedford over the weekend (24th – 25th June). Essex were competing against Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk.
Theo Adesina (William Edwards) came second in the Intermediate Boys Octathlon with 4645 points and gaining pbs in Disc 25.65, 100mH 14.1,Shot 12.7 (2 meters on his previous PB!) and 1500m 4.52.5.

Two of our athletes were on the podium for the Junior Girls Pentathlon; Ruby Bridger (Hathaway Academy) came first with a pb of 3067 points, she also ran the 75mH in 12.2 (pb) with a new club record and goes on the all time list, and threw Shot 10.51 (pb) 1 meter over her previous PB and a new club record too. Sola Taiwo (William Edwards) came third a PB of 2825 points. Results were 75mH12.0, Shot 8.13, HJ 1.49, LJ 4.82, & 800m 2:35.9.

Also representing Essex as a guest was Daniel Ogutaga ( Ockendon Academy ) who came fourth overall with a PB of 2453 and a PB in 80mH of 12.90
Theo, Ruby and Sola and possibly Daniel will be going to The National School Final in Boston, Lincolnshire in September representing the East Anglian region in their age groups. Well done to all Essex teams.
