Adam Vyse

Maldon & Tiptree 4 Tilbury 2

Bostik North

Report by Anthony Mercer

Tilbury for the fourth successive league game leaked goals that lead to them tasting defeat, despite a good fifteen minute period in the second half.

Tilbury made two changes to the line up with Tony Martin and Danny Norton returning to the side.

The home side dominated from the first whistle, leaving Tilbury on the back foot.

On 16 minutes the home side took the lead when Ryan Gondom from the edge of the area hit high into the net. Just four minutes later, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe was adjudged to have been pulled back in the box and the same player scored from the spot.

Tilbury’s first chance of the game came on 41 minutes when Kurasik saved well at the feet of Toby Aromolaran. On 45 minutes Tilbury felt aggrieved when Ryan Clampin ran in to Abdul Salami in the box and the referee despite no appeals, pointed to the spot. Ogedi-Uzokwe again hit home from the spot to take a 3-0 half time lead.

Maldon continued where they left off after the break, when Kieran Bailey struck the bar from six yards oin the 53rd minute.

On the hour Tilbury did start to play and had a succession of corners. On 67 minutes Maldon went further in front when Ogedi-Uzokwe turned easily in the box to fire home for his hat-trick.

Tilbury then had a good spell with the introduction of Luke Hornsley. On 70 minutes Adam Vyse got down the left and crossed for Hornsley to slot home. Four minutes later, Hornsley was again on the score sheet when Vyse again passed to Hornsley, whose first time effort struck the bar, only to come back and rebound off him into the empty net. Just two minutes later Aromolaran was denied when Hornsley played him in and was well blocked as he bared down on goal. On 79 minutes Vyse had two great chances in the space of ten seconds, with good blocks from the Maldon defence stopping each one.

Tilbury pushed hard, but Maldon held their lead, after a good first half performance.

The result leaves Tilbury tenth in the table and they are back in action on Tuesday when they welcome local rivals Canvey Island.
