Firearm used in vicious assault and burglary in Horndon home

A man has been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary in Horndon-on-the-Hill.

It follows an incident in which a group of men broke into a home in the Horndon Road area in the early hours of Wednesday, September 27.

The suspects, who wore masks and were armed with what is believed to have been knives and firearms, assaulted the four occupants and stole a four figure sum of cash and jewellery.

One of the victims, a 36-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head, arm and back.

A 30-year-old woman and two children were threatened and assaulted.

The victims have been safeguarded.

Police are treating it as a targeted and isolated incident. It is not believed there is a threat to the wider public.

A 21-year-old man from Hackney was arrested last night, Monday October 2, in Hackney on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of firearms with intent. He is currently in custody for questioning.

An imitation firearm was also recovered.
