Thurrock Swimmers Excel at County Championships

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club performed exceptionally well in this year’s Winter Championships. In addition to achieving personal best and regional qualifying times, four of the swimmers participating made this year’s senior finals – a fantastic achievement.

Lillian Tagg had an impressive weekend at the Winter Championships, not only achieving huge personal best times in all of her races, but also improving on current regional times. Matteo Castello achieved long course personal bests in all of his events. He broke the 40 second barrier in the 50m breast-stroke for the first time – a huge achievement for Matteo. Teni Ogunlesi swam a great 50m free-style and set regional times in the 50m back-stroke and fly-over.

Jenson Hurrell had a good weekend achieving personal best times in most of his races. His impressive participation in the 200m back-stroke has now put him in a position where national qualification is in his sights. Martine Tran came in 3rd place in the 50m fly-over and 4th in the 100m fly-over, both fantastic swims for Martine. Ellie Martin also swam exceptionally well in the 50m & 100m breast-stroke, achieving fantastic times in both races.

Radost Milkova had a great weekend achieving long course personal bests in all of her races and achieving additional regional times. Colin Moghina achieved many personal best times – his 100m breast-stroke improved by an impressive 4 seconds, a great improvement on his previous best. Alexa Miles-Stevens set personal best times in the 50m & 100m breast-stroke – with the 50m time also being a regional best.

Aaron Lambie had a good weekend achieving best times in all of his races – the highlight of his weekend was achieving more than a 4 second personal best in the 200m fly-over. Samuel Barella equalled his personal best in the 50m free-style and 50m fly-over and finished just outside of his best in the 100m free-style. Tilly Mayes equalled her best times in the 50m free-style, achieved 4th place in the 50m fly-over and 7th in the 100m fly-over. Tilly set a personal best in the 200m free-style and was just outside of her best in the 100m free-style.

Overall, the swimmers had a fantastic weekend at the Essex Winter Championships, well done to all of those that participated.
