Cllr Rob Gledhill, Leader of Thurrock Council said: “It’s great to see the community of Purfleet coming together at an event like this. The overriding message I have got from speaking to people living here is that they are not happy to be depicted as living in fear.

“The fact that the community has come out to attend this event show’s that life in Purfleet, and the Garrison Estate in particular, is very different to how it was portrayed in recent media articles.

“We are working with community groups and Essex Police to tackle issues but it’s great to see people from Purfleet coming out on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy everything on offer here.”

Just before Thurrock Council issued the press release, Essex Police reported an armed attack involving a woman and child in Purfleet.
