Unfortunately, today’s game against East Thurrock United was cancelled due to a major RTC that took place on the M4 between junctions 14 & 15.
Statement from Weston Super-Mare
The decision to cancel was made following extensive telephone conversations that had taken place between Weston-super-Mare officials, East Thurrock officials, and along with the match referee making several calls to both the National League and FA it was felt that at the time of the decision, when an expected motorway reopening time was being pushed later and later, moving from 1:30pm to 2:15pm as an ETA and an expected travel time of at least 2 hours that the best decision for both players and supporters would be to unfortunately cancel the game.
This decision was made due to the unknown time frames involved which could have easily ended up being pushed even later in time. At the time of the cancellation the earliest feasible kick-off time, with best estimates and information sourced from Highways Agency, would have been at a time so late in the day that would have been unfeasible, taking into consideration the vast extensive travelling time our opponents will have endured, along with best practice suggestions as to kick off times.
As soon as we were able we made best efforts to inform all supporters via social media of the unfortunate cancellation.
We do apologise for this however we would ask for your understanding that this decision was not made lightly by the match officials but was made with best information available to all at the time.
