Ormiston Park Academy’s Science Team Visit Aveley Primary
SCIENCE teachers from Ormiston Park Academy, in Aveley, paid a visit to Year 5 and 6 pupils at local Aveley Primary School on Wednesday 12 December to deliver practical science lessons with a difference.
Ms Thacker and Ms Ryan from the Science department at the academy, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), went along to the primary school to deliver the hands-on sessions.
Year 5 pupils carefully carried out the exciting chemistry practical ‘Hydrogen Pop Tests,’ whilst pupils from Year 6 reinforced their knowledge and understanding of the heart and circulatory system. After recently studying the topic, Year 6 pupils were delighted to get the opportunity to get involved and perform heart dissections.
Both teachers remarked on how impressed they were by the excellent listening and practical skills of all the students involved and were keen to consider how else they could continue their work with the school.
Following the success of the sessions, Ormiston Park’s Science team will now be visiting Aveley Primary School every week from Thursday 24th January to host a very special afterschool Science Club.
Huw Derrick, Principal at Ormiston Park Academy, said:
“We are delighted that Ormiston Park Academy were able to play a part in delivering practical and exciting ways of engaging with Science to pupils at Aveley Primary School.
“At Ormiston Park Academy, we are always keen to build on our strong community link, and these sessions provided the perfect opportunity for us to get involved.
“We look forward to delivering more practical work at Aveley Primary School in 2019 and I am excited to see what else Ms Thacker and Ms Ryan have in store.”
