On the 4th June, a ribbon cutting ceremony marked the completion of infrastructure works which will enable Skye Strategic Land Laindon Ltd to begin building a state-of-the-art facility for St. Luke’s Hospice. Local councillors and media were in attendance with representatives from St. Luke’s Hospice, Redrow, Skye Strategic Land Laindon Ltd and sub-contractor Natta.

The new six-bedroom hospice facility will act as a ‘twin’ site to St. Luke’s existing hospice in Basildon. As part of the programme, outpatient clinics and therapies, a learning centre, hospice gardens and a café reception will all be delivered. The construction of the new hospice is enabled by Redrow’s new “The Shires” development where the housebuilder will be delivering 80 new family homes, together with highways and landscape infrastructure and the funding for the hospice building.

St. Luke’s Hospice was chosen as Redrow’s charity of the year in 2015, with the housebuilder raising over £34,000 for the charity.

Alex Stark, Managing Director at Redrow Eastern, commented, “Redrow is really pleased to have completed work on the spine road infrastructure, which paves the way for the vital care facilities to be constructed for the local community. The Shires embodies our commitment to creating thriving communities and the delivery of this important local infrastructure and facilities is a central facet to the development. ”

St. Luke’s Hospice’s Chief Executive, Eileen Marshall, said, “This is an exciting day in the development of our new Hospice, which has been in planning for many years. Alongside our current Hospice in Basildon, this new site will enable us to better meet the increasing and changing needs of end of life care in our community and we’ll be watching keenly as the building work progresses.”

At “The Shires”, Redrow is delivering three and four bedroom family homes from its award-winning Heritage Collection. To find out more about the available homes visit. www.redrow.co.uk/theshires or call 01268 977526.
