Govt rank Essex Police bottom of league for tackling anti-social behaviour

"Essex Police recognises anti-social behaviour (ASB) can be a major issue and we have continued to develop our response since the original HMIC inspection in January 2012.This latest report, which is a snapshot based on data from four weeks in 2011, has identified some interesting findings in relation to the police response to ASB and the feelings of victim.

Pint sized thief wanted after two burglaries in Grays

The man pictured in the efit is described as white, in his late 30s, approximately 5ft 4ins tall, of stocky build, has a round face, has little hair and has three white marks on his face. At the time, he was wearing a navy coat, navy trousers and sporting a support bandage on his right hand. He was carrying two carrier bags, coloured pink and white.”

Teenage victim sought after assault outside Thameside complex

POLICE are looking to trace a girl believed to have been the victim of an assault in Grays. Officers have been investigating the assault of a girl, believed to be of teenage years, which happened inside Grays Central Library in Orsett Road, on Friday, February 22, at around 3.15pm. So far officers have been unable to identify the girl involved.

Update on fatal M25: A lorry driver still in custody as police launch appeal

THE M25 at Aveley between junctions 29 and 30 was fully reopened at 9pm last night, Tuesday, April 2, following a fatal collision involving ten vehicles. A 79-year-old man from Ilford was certified dead at the scene. He was the driver of a silver Renault Clio. A 58-year-old man, who was the dead man’s son and also from Ilford, is currently in a stable condition at the Royal London Hospital. He was the passenger in the silver Clio. The collision happened at 12.30pm on the clockwise carriageway and involved four articulated lorries and six cars. One person, a man in his 70s from east London, was certified dead at the scene. Two people were airlifted to the Royal London Hospital and a number of other people received less serious injuries.

Police appeal after daylight attack on 60-year-old man

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Grays. At around 1.35pm on Saturday February 2, 2013 in Grays Town Centre, at the junction of Clarence Road and Derby Street Bridge, a 60-year-old man became involved in an altercation with a young woman and whilst distracted by her, he was punched numerous times to the head by a man, causing the victim to fall to the floor unconscious causing him to have a seizure and a cut to his head.

Man attacked in front of children at Grays railway station

BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for witnesses after a father was beaten by two men in front of his son and daughter at Grays station. The incident took place on Friday, 8 March as the 38-year-old victim from north-west London was waiting at the station around 5.45pm with his 10-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.

Knife wielding thieves attack man and threaten family in Stanford

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an aggravated burglary which occurred at a house in The Sorrells, at Stanford-le-Hope, on Monday 25 March. The offenders forced their way into a house just before 9.40pm after knocking at the door.

Exhumation takes place in case of Lee Balkwell

Detective Inspector Janine Farrell, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "This investigation is committed to searching for the truth about what happened to Lee Balkwell in July 2002 and we have not made the decision to conduct this exhumation lightly.

Tilbury man who was wanted in connection with offences including theft and assault has now been arrested. James Gray, also known as Jimmy and now aged 23, was arrested in Grays on Thursday March 21.

Man in court over Liam Holden murder charge

OWEN Wood who was charged with the murder of 35-year-old Liam Holden appeared at Magistrates Court on Monday and then attended a bail hearing on Tuesday at Crown Court. Bail was declined.The 23 year old from Godman Road in Grays was remanded in custody until May 13.

Police urge car owners to be vigilant as theft epidemic hits Thurrock

Sixty vehicles have been stolen since the start of March and various overt and covert police operations have been launched to tackle the problem. White vans have been the main target of the thieves with 24 having been taken so far this month. They include 19 Ford Transit vans, mostly the latest models. The other 36 vehicles are mainly cars of various makes and ages.

Grays murder: Man charged

A MAN has been charged with the murder of Liam Holden. Owen Wood, 23, of Godman Road, Grays is charged with murdering the 35-year-old in Grays in the early hours of Sunday, March 10, 2013.

Second arrest in Grays murder investigation

A SECOND man has been arrested today in connection with the murder of Liam Holden at Grays.The arrested man, who is aged 23 and from the Grays area, was detained by police in Humberside and will be brought back to Essex for questioning.

Lee Balkwell case: Body to be exhumed

THE BODY of the man who died in a cement mixer more than a decade ago is to be exhumed. Lee Balkwell was found dead in July 2002 at Baldwin's Farm near to South Ockendon. Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate intend to carry out an exhumation of the body of Lee Balkwell as part of their ongoing search for the truth regarding his death.
