Around 40 young people from the Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, The Grays School Media Arts College, Grays Convent High School, William Edwards School and Sports College, The Gateway Academy and Treetops School will be joined by others from Inspiration Youth Call, the Thurrock Council’s Youth Service and the Pupil Referral Unit to take part in the Thurrock Diversity Champions Project.
The Head of School will work with the Gateway Academy Principal to prepare for the introduction of three groups of Year 6 pupils in 2012 and for the all other year groups in the newly built school in 2013.
The head of school will also play a key role in developing the Gateway Learning Community Trust, a collaborative partnership of 3 primary schools and the Gateway Academy.
IT HAS been some journey since principal, Tess Walker took over at Aveley Comprehensive nine years ago. The school has changed in so many ways. It is now Ormiston Park Academy and the glittering plans (we will show that film tomorrow) illustrate why there is no stopping the Nethan Drive school.
WILLIAM EDWARDS student, Gemma Holloway was in magnificent form at the weekend as the 14-year-old Thurrock Harrier captured the Essex Cross Country Championships.
Eleven girls from Year 9 attended the CJSR Youth Justice and Peace day and contributed to workshops led by CJSR, CAFOD and London Citizens. On returning to school they prepared and led an assembly to help make other girls in their year group aware of the issues discussed. Molly White commented, “I enjoyed mixing with other schools. It has made me more aware of what is happening in the world.” Connie Rahman said, “The day made me realise that we should appreciate what we have and take on some responsibility in our communities.
Head of Applied Science and Technology, Claire Gavaghan, said: “It’s an exciting time for logistics in south Essex. With the growing logistic operations coming out of the area, there is a growing need for qualified staff and this course will equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the logistics industry.”
THURROCK failed to send a single student to either Oxford or Cambridge, a report has shown. To add educational insult to injury, it was only one of eleven local education authorities in the country to fail to provide a student to the elite universities.
A FOUR-strong Ofsted inspection team has rated a Thurrock primary school “good” in almost every aspect they looked at — and outstanding in two. Bonnygate Primary, in Arisdale Avenue, South Ockendon, hosted the inspection in early December and it was published on 3rd January.
And Billy Elliot is harder than it looks as it has a lot of extras and uses a lot of theatre spaces. But the greater the challenge, the greater the show at Treetops.
THE OCKENDON Academy has successfully made the next step on its journey from Ofsted ‘outstanding ‘ to its ambition for excellence, having received the green light to open a Studio School from Lord Hill, Under Secretary of State for Schools. ‘The Ockendon Studio School’ will be one of just 12 new Studio Schools to open nationally in September 2012, in addition to six which are already in existence.
One student tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the world’s largest event runs smoothly is Level 3 Public Services student Kayleigh Byrne, 17, from Aveley. She said: “Working at the Games is an amazing opportunity. I’ve always wanted to work in the public sector and as for getting experience working on events; it doesn’t get much better than the Olympics!”
FYI, that is Happy Christmas in Bulgarian. One of the many many great things about Ormiston Park Academy is the way they have developed the educational skills of young people from all over the world.
A number of students walked down to the sheltered housing complex at Kynoch Court to sing carols, deliver hampers as well as sit and chat to the borough's more senior residents. The residents were delighted and heaped praise on the students for their wonderful singing and impeccable manners.
