THE Port of Tilbury recently welcomed the cruise liner, Nautica on July 4th for a patriotic turnaround of mainly American passengers. On the American national holiday, 620 passengers disembarked at the London Cruise Terminal after their luxurious cruise. Some guests flew home after their relaxing holiday, whilst many others chose to extend their stay in London to take advantage of the glorious weather.
ON Thursday 4th July IMO Secretary–General Mr. Koji Sekimizu joined Tilbury’s Apostleship of the Sea port chaplain, Deacon Paul Glock and National Director Martin Foley, for some ship visiting and to see first-hand the work of local seafarers’ charity Apostleship of the Sea.
MANY children in the Ukraine and Belarus still endure daily the effects of the radioactive fallout from Chernobyl. This was an entirely new experience for these children, whose homes are far from the sea and have only seen photographs of ships. The Chernobyl Children’s Life Line charity in partnership with the Port of Tilbury, took the opportunity to provide them with an experience during their stay in the U.K they will remember fondly.
FORTH Ports Limited and Port of Zeebrugge / MBZ have today (19 June 2013) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which marks the start of a strategic agreement between the Port companies with the aim of the exploring mutual opportunities to attract new container cargo volumes.
MARKS & Spencer is in talks to take a 1m sq ft warehouse at DP world’s London Gateway port development. The move is expected to satisfy the high street retailer’s long-standing requirement for a new south-east depot.
Captain Exley’s role as Marine and Cruise Manager at the Essex Port sees him responsible for the redevelopment of the historic Grade II listed London Cruise Terminal, marketing this unique cruise facility on the Thames internationally and building the cruise business into Essex and London. He has recently returned from Florida where, Forth Ports in association with Cruise Britain, exhibited at the Cruise Shipping Miami Conference, with a view to attracting new business to the cruise terminal in London.
THE CREW of a cross channel ferry that suddenly went out of service, are being supported by Catholic seafarers' charity, Apostleship of the Sea. The 'Ostend Spirit' worked the Ramsgate to Ostend route but ceased operations last week and is currently laid up in Tilbury Docks reports the Independent Catholic News. The Eastern European crew are still on board as discussions about the future of the ship and their future continue. Reports claim crew have not been paid since Christmas.
ALL four turbines at the Port of Tilbury Wind Farm have now been fully installed by SSE Renewables. The first turbine has started generating electricity. Each turbine has a capacity of 2.3MW and the wind farm is capable of supplying up to 50% of the port's electricity needs.

OWNERS of the new London Distribution Park (LDP) – Forth Ports Ltd and Roxhill Developments Ltd – which is located beside the Port of Tilbury, are pushing forward with their marketing drive with the launch of a new website and marketing brochure to promote the exclusive benefits of this unique warehousing development.
PROCTOR and Gamble have donated a thousand tooth brushes (with tooth paste) to the ships crews at the port of Tilbury. The toothbrushes have been distributed by Paul Cave, the chaplain of the Lighthouse Seafarers Mission in Tilbury.
A MULTI-agency strategy to tackle tackle organised crime and the threat of terrorism was launched at the port of Tilbury.
Working with Crimestoppers,Port of Tilbury, UK Border Force and Counter Terrorism Unit, all the organisations will target the transport industry to find out about criminal activity that may be occurring at the region's ports.

THE Port of Tilbury this week helped the Rev Joshua Rey of Streatham, South London, give his wife a birthday treat to remember by providing a surprise tour around the port. Rev Rey’s wife, Annie, has a passion for ships emanating from her childhood trips to Ireland from Holyhead and has always wanted to visit the port. When the Reverend contacted the port, Lynda Viccars, the Port of Tilbury’s Community Liaison Manager was only too happy to oblige.
