Belhus slithered to a six-wicket defeat on their own patch on Saturday in the Shepherd Neame Essex League. Not only was the match lost, but opportunity of promotion is now an impossibility as their season imploded at the hands of Buckhurst Hill at South Ockendon Recreation Ground. The last six home batsmen contributed a meagre four runs between them, but in the bowler-friendly conditions, Stephen Huckstepp showed great tenacity with a fine knock of 65, until he was yorked by a "dream ball" from Ali Azad, who extorted great damage in the Belhus innings by taking 5-14 from 6.5 overs.

The Hammers now have just one Elite League match left, which is at home to the Birmingham Brummies, and will take place at the Arena-Essex Raceway this Friday, 26th August. With all the other teams in the League having matches in hand it will be a nervy finish to the year for everyone involved with the Essex based Club.
