Relay Triumph for Harriers Girls

Spectators on an unseasonably chilly and wet July evening were thrilled with the performances at the County Relay Championships in Braintree. Thurrock fielded seven teams and came away with 2 medals against some very strong opposition.

Success came in the under 17 girls section where Thurrock girls demonstrated their talent. The 4 x 100m team surged ahead through Rebecca Connelly and Nancy Le Beau. The third changeover however lost a few metres, which Georgia Webber couldn’t make up. Linzi Boosey’s great run on the final leg held their second place.

The girls, with Hannah McGowan Jones replacing Georgia Webber running the 800m leg, ran exceptionally well in the Medley relay to gain third place. Rebecca probably clocked close to 60 seconds in the 400m, but there were no recorded split times on the evening.

Under 15 boys fielded two newcomers Bari Allali and Moses Akinbohun and along with seasoned sprinters Liam Appleyard and Jack Farmer were 5th. The medley relay team saw JJ Jameson run a superb final 800m leg.

The Under 17 men worked hard in all three relays; 4 x 100m 4 x 400m and Medley relays to gain creditable results in the final and have great promise for next year when some of them remain in the same age group.

Thurrock youngsters will be in action again at their home match on 16th August when a good team turn out will help to secure their position in the league.
