Police executed a warrant in Tilbury on Monday, September 14 following information that a house on Hume Close was housing dangerous dogs.
Working with Gemini Kennels, to make sure the dogs were detained safely and with minimal distress to the animal, officers entered a property and recovered a Pitball-mix dog. The dog was taken away by Gemini Kennels.
Neighbourhood policing officer, Pc Chris Kench, said: “If we receive information like this, there is a potential that the dogs may be bred for fighting which is highly dangerous and not fair to the animal.
“It’s unfortunate if the dogs are family pets, but dangerous dogs should not be kept especially in neighbourhoods where there are lots of children.
“We received community intelligence and have acted on it. It has been a successful job today, as an animal has been taken away, which is the safest outcome. I would like to encourage anyone that has concerns in their neighbourhood to let us know, and we will act on it.”
A 25-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of possessing a banned dog, contrary to Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
He is currently on police bail until Thursday, October 22 pending further enquiries.
