A Thurrock Council employee will be joining thousands of women on Saturday (14 May), walking around London, raising funds for breast cancer and wearing a decorated bra!
Carol Cole of the council’s Children, Education and Families directorate will be taking part in the Playtex Moonwalk, an event which raises money and awareness for breast cancer research and cancer care.
Carol will be power-walking her way through over 13.1 miles during the midnight hours with he daughter, in a bra she hand decorated with silk flowers and flashing lights.
Carol, who has worked for the council for over 30 years, is aiming to raise £500 for the charity She said: “I didn’t go last year, but walked the walk for the previous four years, so this is my fifth time taking part. Apart from helping to broaden awareness for such a good cause, participating in the moonwalk helps keep me fit.
“It is also great to be walking with so many other inspirational people who have suffered the effects of the disease either firsthand or through someone close to them, such as a mother or wife. Many of these stories are expressed with personal messages attached to the back of their bras the walkers wear on the day.”
The walk takes about four and a half hours and includes Hyde Park, Westminster, London Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament.
