Two men from south-west Essex appeared in court today (Saturday) after having been charged with robbery.
The attack happened in Chafford Hundred when two men entered Tesco Express on Drake Road shortly before 10pm on Thursday 4 August. They threatened staff with violence, forcing them to hand over a four-figure sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes.
A short time later and a short distance away, Iain Banks and Lee Horning were arrested and both subsequently charged with one count of robbery and two counts of attempted burglary relating to break-ins at shops earlier that evening.
Iain Banks, a 26-year-old unemployed man from Milton Road, Grays and 29-year-old labourer Lee Horning from Cole Avenue, Chadwell St Mary were detained in police custody prior to their appearance at Southend Magistrates Court on Saturday 6 August.
